Accessibility and Special Needs
Imaginosity is committed to giving all children a meaningful experience that enhances and celebrates their abilities. We provide exhibits, programmess and public spaces that are inclusive and interactive for all visitors. Our museum staff have been trained how to best help visitors with various needs. If you are planning a visit to the museum, please do not hesitate to ask for use of any of the services listed below. A staff member will be happy to assist you. Guide and Assistance Dogs are always welcome.
Imaginosity Dublin children’s museum is designed to be an inclusive space. The exhibits are as useable as possible regardless of age, ability or situation. Physical modifications were made to every exhibit so that there were as few barriers to full participation as possible. As an example, the Bank and Supermarket were designed with two levels of accessibility to ensure wheelchair users have full access. This is also true of the climbing structure running through the building, where entry levels on each floor are accessible to wheelchair users. Recent addition to the museum includes designing and building a sensory garden and Waterlab on the balcony and we have also recently added braille panels to the Bank.
There are lifts to the rear of the building to access all levels and there are accessible bathrooms on the Ground Floor Level, Level 1 and Level 2.
For our Visitors:
A free carer ticket is available on request for anyone who needs extra assistance to visit. This ticket is available for families and groups.
We have developed a pre-visit guide developed for special needs groups which is accessible and downloadable here.
We have developed a sensory story workshop in conjunction with Childvision http://www.stjosephsvi.ie/. We created Sensory story boards which correspond with the story being told and are used during the workshop as a very tactile and multisensory way of reading a story.
We run a ‘Festival of Stories’ every year in which we encourage families to read together and learn to tell their own stories together. During this festival we have invited Childvision http://www.stjosephsvi.ie/ and Irish Deaf Kids http://www.irishdeafkids.ie/ to visit and run workshops which have been hugely successful over the previous two years.
Imaginosity is an equal opportunities employer and is dedicated to recognising everybody’s ability.
We are one of the Kanchi 100 companies [link to be provided here Quentin] working to change mind-sets and behaviours. We were nominated as a finalist in the 2010 O2 ability awards through the ‘Kanchi Network’ highlighting the work we do and the care taken for people with different abilities.
