The Garage

The Garage offers children the chance to become real mechanics, drivers and engineers as they explore a range of activities and challenges in this popular exhibit. Put on your overalls, discover our cog-wall, use your tools to fix the car, build a wooden car and race it down the track or fill up the real-lie Audi A1 with petrol. The Garage encourages imaginative role-play and is a great space for boys and girls of all ages, along with mums and dads to work collaboratively as a team and have lots of fun.

  • Experience what it’s like to drive in our full sized Audi A1
  • Design a car with our computerised programme
  • Build and race a wooden car down the mini race track
  • Fill the car with petrol

  • Listen to the sound of the petrol pump
  • Twist the cogs and try to make the bell ring
  • Explore the different tools on the workbench
  • Lie underneath the small car and find the magnetic car parts

  • Put on your mechanic’s overalls, what can you do to fix the broken car?
  • Load the kids in the back of the car — make sure you have your seatbelt secured. Now it’s time for a drive in the countryside!

Children are really interested in tools. Using pretend tools helps develop fine motor skills and it’s a real life skill children can use. Working alongside children and creating fun experiences can have the added benefit of attaching fun to everyday tasks.
